Overview
Well, the best way to judge the progress of the third mark of Z, is to compare previous
drag strips outings. I never really considered myself a hard core drag racer, but the more
curious I got about the performance potential, the stronger the addiction got.
Besides, it's a lot easier on my driving record to do this legally.
Especially as the car got faster.
Stage I
- 358 c.i. Chevrolet V8
- 8.9:1 compression
- Performer RPM intake
- Holley 650 cfm 4160 double pumper
- Block Hugger Headers
- Dual 2" to single 3" exhaust with three chamber Flowmaster
- MSD 6AL Ignition
- GM 700R4 4-speed Automatic Overdrive
- 3000 RPM stall TCI lock-up torque converter
- Datsun R200 Open Differential 3.54:1
- OEM U-joint half shafts
- 245/60/R14 generic street tires
- 280zx 14 x 6 wheels
Best Time: 13.09 at 104.4 mph (1.961 60 foot)
Stage II
- Coil Over springs with Tokico (sp?) struts
- 15 x 8 wheels
- 275/50/R15 BFG Drag Radials
Best Time: 13.05 at 104.5 mph (1.891 60 foot)
Hmmm... looks like I don't have the guts to make through to the big end. Need a little
more power for that magic twelve second ticket, hence...
Stage III
- 125hp Nitrous Oxide System (powershot)
Best Time: 11.83 at 113.5 mph (1.661 60 foot)
Stage IV
- 8 point roll bar
- Line Lock
- Aluminum Heads
- 1.6 Roller Rockers
- 10:1 compression
- Performer RPM camshaft (not the best choice for a light car)
- Modified double pumper with downleg boosters (680 cfm), milled choke horn
Best Time: 11.57 at 116.6 mph (1.660 60 foot)
OEM half shaft broke after second run
Stage V
- Full length 1.75" chassis headers (same shitty exhaust otherwise)
Best Time: 11.308 at 120.1 mph (1.605 60 foot)
Nitrous solonoid siezed after first juice run. None of this ever happens
on the street, why me!!!
